![]() ![]() She mentioned, do you know why they always have Dubs on a leash when running with the football team out of the tunnel? Husky dogs have a mind of their own. Husky dogs were born with the desire to run. She explained, I should plan to spend at least 2-3 hours every day providing exercise, training, social interaction, mental stimulation, and grooming. Soleil admitted “Dubs” is handsome and well-behaved but it takes a lot of work to keep him that way! It also takes the right kind of person because dogs like Dubs are very independent and have a lot of opinions. She told me first, I was enamored with the Boise State “Tee” dog and I’m just attracted to the flash. She responded “are you out of your mind!” She didn’t hold back. Yesterday, I mentioned this opportunity to Ruth and she replied, “you got to be kidding!” I knew Soleil would be supportive with this family decision when I told her about my plans. Also, I would have the opportunity during the games to hangout on the sidelines with Dubs II as he is doing his “shtick”. What an adrenaline rush! You may be asking the reason for Ruth running with Dubs II and not me? The answer is simple, she is faster than me. I can see it now, Ruth dressed in her Husky apparel running across the football field with Dubs II and the football team following. I keep coming back this is a natural fit. Ruth and I already attend all the home games, several away games, and booster events. Our grandson – Henry and Soleil, great buddies. I foresee the two of them becoming fast friends. She could help the young Dubs II get acclimated to the neighborhood and its new humans. Dubs II would have an excellent opportunity to be mentored by Soleil. Just think what we could do with Dubs II. We have trained Soleil to bow when we say “Bow Down to Washington”. We have Soleil as proof of a loving family she’s kind for accepting strangers, loves to travel, and is well-trained. It is good they are doing their due diligence to search for a responsible family, but look no further. “Speedy” the clamĭubs, the Husky mascot is retiring at the end of the year and the University will be replacing him with Dubs II. I’ve heard that the mascot even has a theme song and it goes something like “Siphon high, squirt it out, swivel all about, let it all hang out”. I’ve been told “Speedy” the dancing clam can be seen shoeless and air boxing on the basketball court, though I’m not sure the display is striking fear into the hearts of opponents. Speaking of The Evergreen State College, the school’s Latin motto is Omnia Extares (“Let it all hang out”), and their mascot “Speedy” represents the essence of what is strange about the school. When I received the email from the University of Washington, I thought of how fortunate I was to be a Husky fan, rather than a Stanford fan with their “Tree” one of the goofiest mascot of all time or an Evergreen State College alumni or supporter, with “Speedy” the geoduck clam. They must have had someone like me in mind when they sent the email. I immediately recognized this as an opportunity, I’m a loyal Husky fan and a dog lover, OMG! It’s a natural fit. As a Tyee member supporting University of Washington athletics, I received an email last week from the University soliciting applications from families to be the new care-taker of Dubs II. ![]()
